First Winter's Ice

Silent tiptoeing from midnight sky

First Winter’s Ice

Silent tiptoeing from midnight sky;
Cold glaring brilliance radiating fair;
Frozen dreamlike - glistening white;
Firelight diamonds
                    sparkling dare.

Morning creeps, timidly arrives;
Not bold, not brave, not fearfully;
Alas, it peeks in cautious, cautious;
Dare not frighten
                   astonished reality.

Crystalized tenacles dangling groundward;
Hairy strands bravely clinging;
Parading rainbows in dawn's light;
Falling droplets
                  silently weeping.

Stalactite icicles, suspended crystal prisms;
Precious rare gift, quiet night hush;
Linger on, eerie beauty cannot stay;
Solar energy diminishes
                         all to slush!

First Winter’s Ice (alternate)

Silent tiptoeing from midnight sky,
Cold glaring brilliance radiating fair.
Frozen dreamlike glistening white,
Firelight diamonds sparkling dare.

Morning creeps, timidly arrives,
Not bold, not brave, not fearfully.
Alas, it peeks in cautious, cautious,
So as not to frighten astonished reality.

Crystalized tenacles dangling groundward,
Hairy strands bravely clinging,
Parading rainbows in early light,
Falling droplets silently weeping.

Stalactite icicles, suspended in icy prisms,
Precious rare gift, quiet night hush.
Linger on, eerie beauty cannot stay,
As solar energy diminishes it to slush.
