He Knew My Name

I used the whip upon his back

He Knew My Name

I used the whip upon His back;
  gathered thorns to crown His head;
  nailed His body to a tree -
  knew the moment He was dead.

I felt the glow of His smile;
  He the master - I the slave;
  silent in His dying breath, I knew -
  He thought of me, and forgave.

He knew my name before the dawn;
  watched me struggle, made me strong;
  though I've cursed Him in my grief -
  He'll lead me home where I belong.
